A Message from our Pastor

Good Samaritan is a part of the Lumen Christi Pastoral Region, established by Bishop Peter Ingham in July 2010. The Pastoral Region, also known as the Catholic Parishes of Wollongong, incorporates the Cathedral of St Francis Xavier, Wollongong, the Co-Cathedral of St John Vianney, Fairy Meadow, the Church of Mater Dolorosa, Balgownie and the Parish Church of St Brigid, Gwynneville.

Catholic education is but one of the many aspects of Catholic life in the Lumen Christi Pastoral Region. Good Samaritan Catholic Primary School provides quality learning in the Catholic context. The children learn about many wonderful things; most especially, they learn about the love of God. All the members of our school communities are called to be ‘Moved to Compassion’ as they discover the depth of God’s unconditional love for the world.

We are proud to promote the partnership between the home, the school and the parish. When each takes their rightful role in the education of the child then, indeed, we advance the integral development of every child enrolled in our schools.

A key component of this development is the education in the faith. Our school communities assist the pastoral region in preparing the children for the reception of the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. Our schools are places of prayer. They are inclusive places where all are made feel welcome and safe.

Fr Bernard Gordon
VICAR GENERAL, PARISH ADMINISTRATOR

PARISH DETAILS

St John Vianney’s community, which is also part of the Lumen Christi Pastoral Region incorporating the churches of Wollongong, Gwynneville and Fairy Meadow/Balgownie.

There are many aspects of parish life in which students, staff and families may become involved. All members of our parish school community are actively encouraged to be part of parish and Church life.

School prayer, liturgies and Masses are an important and enriching aspect of daily life at Good Samaritan. They provide opportunities to ritually celebrate the many lived experiences of our lives and the many mysteries of our faith.

Classes participate in the 9am Tuesday Parish Mass on a roster system. Teachers organise these Masses and students play a role in the readings, offertory procession and hymns. Feast Days and other special days are also celebrated. Family and friends are always welcome to join in these celebrations.

Parish sacramental celebrations also provide an opportunity to celebrate students' life of faith with fellow parishioners. The parish provides programs of preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist (First Communion) and Confirmation each year. Enrolment for the sacraments occurs through the parish. The school-based Religious Education curriculum supports and enriches this program of preparation.

Participation in weekend Mass is also actively encouraged. View the Parish Mass Times here.
